Usually there is a problem when there are two versions of AquaTerm installed. Typically that happens if you have one AquaTerm that comes with MacPorts and another one that you installed on your own from SourceForge. Old AquaTerm has some problems when accepting plotting commands from new framework (but even the new framework still has one bug). Problems are related to 32 vs. 64-bit data in function calls. You can use Activity Monitor to check for open files in gnuplot. You will see which AquaTerm app and Framework is being used. You can change the used app and Framework with environmental variables. (I need to check again which ones exactly.) In the long term the only solution is to get rid of the old AquaTerm (but again, also the new one still has one remaining bug), but then you also need to recompile Octave to link against the new Framework. In the short term it might be best to use environmental variables to choose the right Framework with each application.
